Bill and Debbie Palko

Bill and Debbie PalkoTell us why you became a member of Y Forever (Heritage Club)?
Growing up the Y was a large part of my and Debbie’s youth (me in Houston. Debbie in Pennsylvania). We both learned to swim at the Y. We participated in a myriad of other programs and activities at our local Y. Our two children also learned to swim, play ball and participated in other programs at the Wendel D. Ley YMCA. What better legacy for us to leave than to endow the Ley Y so that future generations will continue to benefit from the programs and services provided by the Wendel D. Ley YMCA.

What has the Y meant to you personally, and to the community?
To me the Y means a safe haven where the community’s families can prosper and grow spiritually, mentally and physically. It serves as a community welcome center to assist all with their needs.

Why would you encourage someone to become a member of Y Forever?
Becoming a Y Forever member allows you to continue to make a positive impact in the lives of those in your community for generations after you’re gone. Plus you leave a legacy for your own family for generations to come.

Have you and Debbie encouraged your children to think about Philanthropy?
What advice have you given them? Debbie and I encourage our children to give back to the community to the extent they are able. We’ve taught them to be fiscally responsible. We advise them to live under their means, save for their own future and give to their community of their time, talent and treasure.
